Shared Tomorrows Community Foundation

New community foundation will provide grants, scholarships and nonprofit support
throughout the greater Birmingham community

Birmingham, Mich., August 2026 – The Community House Association announced today its transition to a community foundation model under the new name Shared Tomorrows Community Foundation, expanding its ability to fund nonprofits and student scholarships. Camille Jayne, Board Chair of Shared Tomorrows, made the announcement.

Building on a century-long legacy of strengthening the community through service and philanthropy, Shared Tomorrows carries forward the commitment to support education, civic engagement and charitable giving. By investing in nonprofits via grants and providing local students access to scholarships, Shared Tomorrows will provide critical support in a time of severe funding shortfalls and economic challenges. Through grants, mentoring, educational seminars as well as social gatherings that celebrate grant and scholarship recipients, Shared Tomorrows will foster collaboration, learning and lasting community impact.

“The principles of The Community House Association as a human services nonprofit have always been rooted in our commitment to serving the community — especially those most in need,” said Jayne. “As a community foundation, Shared Tomorrows will bring donors together to amplify their collective impact, enabling us to significantly increase our community investment by awarding multiple grants and scholarships that will strengthen our community for generations to come. Grants provided by Shared Tomorrows Community Foundation will focus on the areas of human services for seniors and youth, food insecurity, wellness, education, cultural arts and recreational therapy for individuals with disabilities. Small to mid-size nonprofits located within a 10-mile radius of central Birmingham will be eligible to apply for grants and mentoring. The organization will also provide funding for scholarships to local students seeking higher education and skilled trades training at Michigan colleges, universities and trade schools.

Adding to its existing fund portfolio, Shared Tomorrows will launch with an $800,000 endowment and an additional $184,000 in initial community pledges, providing a strong foundation for its grantmaking and scholarship efforts. The community foundation’s inaugural grant and scholarship cycles will begin in 2027.
